W. SCOTT SIMPSON started the firm with his wife in 2007. A former corporate general counsel, Scott now specializes in dispute resolution. Scott is a Registered Mediator, Registered Appellate Mediator, Commercial Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, and a licensed Real Estate Broker. He has conducted mediations in 26 states, and has also been involved in many arbitration cases.
Scott takes pride in the fact that the firm makes no delineation between partner and associate. “This is a big advantage for our clients because it means the partners – the most experienced people in the entire firm – are actively involved. It’s one of the reasons we have never lost a client since we opened our doors.”
He earned a B.A. degree from the University of Florida in 1989, and received his Juris Doctor degree from the Cumberland School of law at Samford University in 1993.
Since 2002, Scott has taught a class on dispute resolution at the Samford law school as a way to help inform and educate tomorrow’s young lawyers.
In 2015, the Pepperdine Dispute Resolution Law Journal (the nation’s leading alternative legal publication) published a study spearheaded by Scott and Florida State University Psychology Professor Roy F. Baumeister.“The glucose model of mediation: Physiological bases of willpower as important explanations for common mediation behavior,” discusses the parallels between blood glucose levels and a person’s reduced likeliness to say no to a settlement during the late afternoon period, when blood glucose levels are typically down.
